The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for
You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Because the Lord is my shepherd I have everything I need. He provides my food and drink, housing, clothing, everything! I don’t have to worry about anything. I’m even safe buying a used car. It may end up needing a lot of repairs, but my Shepherd is a certain missionary lady’s too. I was able to give her the car with $12,000 worth of new parts and she drove it forever. Jesus never makes a mistake and He was guiding every step of the way!
He watches over my life in green pastures, leading me beside calm waters where sheep feel safe to drink. Sometimes I mess up and don’t follow my Shepherd. I get in real trouble and with sorrow wonder if things can ever be right again, but sure enough, He is right there with me, restoring my soul — 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. — He never throws anyone away, but guides in the paths of righteousness, His name is at stake.
When it’s time to die my Shepherd will walk with me through the valley of the shadow of death. It’s like standing on the edge of a mountainous canyon with the sun setting behind you, the valley in front of you soon fills with the shadows of outer space as Jesus says, “C’mon, let’s go home!” and you jet off to heaven.
He uses a shepherd’s tools when guiding the sheep and then spreads an opulent feast for them in the presence of their enemies. Further expression of His love? Anointing their head with oil, an overwhelming cup, followed by goodness and lovingkindness for the days of his life and he will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The security I have in relationship with Jesus is real and calming every day.
