Love, Obedience, and Victory

1 John 5:3-5

Love and Spiritual Reality

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. 5 Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Do you have a sentimental view of love? When it comes to the love of God things are much more practical. Jesus said, “Don’t say that you love Me if you won’t do what I say.” Here John says that love comes down to obedience and obeying Jesus’ commandments is not a burden because the person who is born of God is living in faith, faith that overcomes the world.

Have you been born again? The moment you were saved you embarked on a life of triumph procured by faith. You enter a new life, a faith life, and this faith automatically delivers victory to your front door. What is the object of your faith? Jesus Christ, the Son of God. If you believe that Jesus is God’s Son, your faith overcomes the world. Why? Because you are dropping saving, cleansing truth into the universe and it has an impact.

When you share your faith with someone you will speak the Word of God to them, but also into the atmosphere and there is real power in that confession. Yes, faith is the vehicle of victory, but so is love. And that comes back to obedience. This again is Spiritual Reality!
