Total Prosperity

3 John 1:2

Walk with God in faith, believe His word and trust Him

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.

I haven’t understood all of the controversies that surround the topic of prosperity. I’m pretty sure everyone would prefer it over a lot of the options. Things got tainted somewhere along the line and labels were assigned via hostile, judgmental rhetoric, and the baby got tossed out with the bathwater. It’s true that some forms of prosperity preaching are extra-Biblical if not anti-Biblical, but that doesn’t call for censure of the whole topic. John’s one verse prayer is still reflective of God’s desire for His children. He wants believers’ souls to prosper and their spirits and bodies to share the bounty. The Book of Proverbs is filled with teaching on wealth and health while other scripture tells of the constant flow of biblical characters pointing out great success in many aspects of life, combined with some harsh times that brought invaluable lessons to home.

It’s really pretty simple – walk with God in faith, believe His word and trust Him to fulfill it and when difficult times come, don’t panic -- it’s normal to prosper so keep looking up with patient confidence, and one day (maybe your first day in heaven) you’ll step into the blessing God has described.

Oh, and health? Psalm 103:3 has you covered.
