Forgiveness

Ephesians 1:7-8

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us.

Why did Jesus come to the earth and die on the cross? He came to redeem lost sinners from satan’s prison where we were held in spiritual bondage. To redeem means to buy back for a designated price.

When I was a kid my mom collected Green Stamps at the grocery store. She pasted them on cards which she then took to the Redemption Center and used them to redeem items for the stated price. In the spiritual realm, human beings are being held for the stated price of “death” or “blood”. Jesus came and shed His blood as He died on the cross and that blood and death are available to redeem any sinner who will believe in Jesus and accept His payment as a substitute for his own. Forgiveness is granted in the same brushstroke, cleansing the sinner from guilt and declaring him righteous. This redemption and forgiveness are dispensed according to the riches of His grace which of course is immeasurable. You may wonder if there is enough grace to take care of you and your sin. There is enough, far more than enough. Lavished – layered up to eternity.

All you have to do is say, “Yes Lord, I believe.” Forgiveness is so sweet, it makes you feel as if nothing ever happened – every sin drowned in the sea of God’s forgetfulness.
